Therapy FAQ

It is my goal to create an environment where you feel safe and comfortable while also appropriately challenged to grow. I work with both individuals and relationships.

All information discussed in sessions is held in strict confidence.

Where is the office located?

My office is located at 55 W Sierra Madre, Sierra Madre, Calif. 91024 in the historic Old Sierra Madre City Hall Building.

How's parking?

Parking is very easy! We have abundant unmetered 2 hr street parking and unmetered 4 hr public parking behind our building.

Are there other things I should know about your office?

My office is on the ground floor of the 1917 Old Sierra Madre City Hall Building. I’m in Suite 203, feel free to come on in if my door is open. Otherwise, I’ll meet you in the waiting area at the entrance to my hallway.

Also, the front door is a “push” door (this information will be helpful to know.)

What’s in Sierra Madre?

Sierra Madre is a sleepy town just east of Pasadena with a large community of therapists. In addition to my office there are great restaurants and some amazing third-wave coffee houses. Syndicate Coffee is across the street from my office and is my go-to.

What are your fees?

I bill $250 per 45-50 min session.

Upon request, I am more than happy to provide you with a “Good Faith Estimate” of fees.

How do I pay?

I accept Credit, Debit, Cash, Check and Venmo. If you’d like to pay in another way, I can normally make an accommodation. We can talk about this in our consultation.

Do you take insurance?

I am considered an out of network provider (ONP) on most PPO insurance plans.

I am happy to provide billing documentation for reimbursement from your insurance company. Bear in mind, coaching is generally not reimbursable by insurance companies.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel, I ask that you give me 48hrs notice.

Sessions cancelled with less than 48hrs notice may be billed at our full session rate.

How long is each appointment? How often do we meet?

Sessions last 45-50 mins, generally. But I do also offer intensives and 90 min sessions by request.

I ask that clients commit to meeting weekly, at least for our first few months.

Do you offer video or phone sessions?

I work with folks in-person and over Zoom for Healthcare (a secure HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform.

If you’d prefer phone sessions, those are always a possibility as well.

How do I make an appointment?

Before scheduling an appointment, I offer a 20 min free consultation. To book a consultation, click here.

We will book our first session after our initial consultation. If you’d prefer to schedule an appointment directly, please email me at greg@gregorydkilpatrick.com or use the contact form below.

What is a free consultation?

I want you to have a chance to get to know me before you commit to therapy or coaching. This is what a consultation is for! This will give you time to ask me any questions you may have. Consultations are 20 mins in duration and are offered free of charge. You can book a free consultation by clicking here.

What age range do you work with?

I work with clients who are junior high age and older.

What's sex therapy?

Sex is a type of talk therapy that focuses on growth in sex and sexuality. Working together, we will process emotions and relationships. I will also help to close any knowledge gaps that you may have when it comes to sex. (Many people haven’t gotten great sex education, surprising right?!).

People will often search out a sex therapist when they are experiencing issues related to sexual orientation, gender, sexual shame, erectile challenges, orgasmic difficulties, and sexual compulsivity (sometimes called ‘sex addiction’). Sex therapy does not involve touch.

What makes your approach to sex therapy different?

I take a very expansive stance with sex therapy. I go beyond solving problems. I want your sex life (and all parts of you) to be vibrant! I believe that your religious and spiritual beliefs are an important part of you. I have extensive post-graduate training in clinical sexology and was mentored by some of the nation’s best sex therapists.

Since you’re a sex specialist, will you ask me to do anything weird in our appointment?

Don’t worry. I won’t ask you anything too weird. We will have conversations that help you to explore and may push you, however you are always in the drivers seat of what you share. I will always respect the limits you give me.

Do you only work with LGBT+ people or sex issues?

I offer both sex therapy and general psychotherapy. I have always had a good number of folks who reach out to me for therapy related to general issues and looking for help with spiritual/religious direction as well.

I’m not LGBT+ or a person of faith. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely! I have experience in working with clients from all walks of life. LGBT+ folks and people of faith are my specialty, but I work with folks with diverse backgrounds.

What is your approach to LGBT+ and queer issues?

As a fellow queer person, I beleive that alot of the distress we can feel comes from living a society that tells us there’s something wrong with us. This is nonsense. In working with me, we’ll navigate the external and internal pressures that can keep you from becoming your full self.

What are the benefits of therapy?

The main benefit of therapy is to give you a space where you can grow, explore and learn. It’s so rare to have a relationship where the focus is you and your growth. This is what we create in therapy.

How soon will I see results?

It varies. However, people will often feel some relief even after the first session. The challenge you are holding is HEAVY. Imagine the relief that comes when you allow a trusted person to help you hold it and feel less alone.

Is it possible to get over intimacy issues and feel close again?

Without hesitation, 100% yes! I regularly see it happen! We can help you to feel close again. We can also help you to feel close for the first time.
